Health and Life Sciences

The Health and Life Sciences Exploratory Track is ideal for students interested in understanding of the body and health. Ideal for students interested in studying health or health-related majors, but not becoming a medical doctor. Work setting may be in a hospital or health care facility. These majors require a strong science and social science interest. Career activities may include planning, managing and providing therapeutic or diagnostic services.

• Communicative Disorders (B.S.)
• Kinesiology (B.S.)
• Medical Laboratory Sciences (B.S.), limited admission or retention program
• Nursing (B.S.), limited admission or retention program
• Nutrition, Dietetics, and Wellness (B.S.), Nutrition, Health and Wellness emphasis
• Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis (B.S. in Health Sciences)
• Public Health (B.S.)
• Rehabilitation and Disability Services (B.S.)

Required Math

• MATH 155: Trigonometry and Elementary Functions; MATH 210: Finite Math; and/or MATH 229: Calculus I. The specific required math course will vary by major.
• Although several majors in this track do not require a specific math course beyond MATH 101: Core Competency Math, some require a statistics course.
• All students must complete the NIU Quantitative Literacy General Education Requirement. Additional math course(s) are outlined in each major.

• AHRS 200, BIOS 103 and 105, BIOS 208 and 210, CHEM 110, CHEM 210 and 212, PHHE 206, PHHE 295, PSYC 102, STAT 208
• COMD majors: BIOS 109, COMD 220, FCNS 280 and/or PSYC 225
